FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What do you sell?
The Sheriff’s sale consists of Real Estate and “Movables” (anything that moves – vehicles, boats, etc.)

When do you have the sales?
Sales are every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month.  Sales are not held on holidays.

Where is the Sheriff’s sale held and when does it start?
The sale is held online at www.bid4assets.com. Bidding shall begin at 9:00 AM CT on the date of an auction and shall be scheduled to close at 1:00 PM CT. If a bid is placed in the final five minutes of an auction, the auction shall extend for an additional five minutes. This will continue until five minutes pass without a bid being placed, at which point the auction will close.

Do you advertise the items in the local paper, The Daily Comet?
Yes, we do, if it is Real Estate, the items are advertised twice: Thirty (30) days before the sale on Thursday and ten (10) days before the sale on Thursday. If it is a “movable,” the items are advertised ten (10) days before the sale on a Thursday.

Does the Sheriff guarantee clear title?
No, it is the responsibility of the bidder to research mortgage certificates for any liens.

Once you have a list, can you view the Real Estate or Movable?
Yes, you can. If it is Real Estate, you can drive by and only view the exterior. You are not able to enter the property.  If it is a movable, you can go to the location of where the movable is stored. Call 985-449-4443 for the location of the movable.

When Real Estate or a Movable is WITH APPRAISEMENT, at what price will the bidding start?
The bidding will start at two-thirds of the appraised value.

When Real Estate or a Movable is WITHOUT APPRAISEMENT, at what price will the bidding start?
That is determined by the Sheriff’s cost and Clerk’s cost which will be calculated the Tuesday before the sale.

When will you get the appraised value?
The appraised value will be given on the Monday afternoon before the sale. Call 985-449-4443 or visit www.bid4asset.com for the appraised value

Where do you get a Sheriff’s Sale list of the items coming up for sale?
The list is available on the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office website. Click on the “Property List Search” button at the top of this page.

Who is eligible to bid?
The bidding is open to the public at www.bid4asset.com. All Prospective third-party bidders shall be required to complete the bid4asset online registration process to participate in the auction. All bidders must submit a $500.00 deposit to Bid4asset before the start of the auction. This single deposit will be associated with a particular auction date and allows a bidder to bid on all auctions that close on that particular date. The remainder of the full purchase price, after the deposit is applied, shall be due by 4:00 PM CT on the tenth (10) business day after the auction. Payments shall be made to Bid4assets. If the successful bidder does not satisfy any payment deadline, all monies paid shall be forfeited and the sheriff reserves the right to sell the property to a backup bidder.
