Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Highway Safety Checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, July 16. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, expired inspection tags, expired/suspended driver's licenses, and other violations.
This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
A total of 499 vehicles passed through the last Highway Safety Checkpoint conducted along the northbound lanes of LA Highway 316 at its intersection with U.S. Highway 90 in Bayou Blue on Wednesday, July 9. During the checkpoint, deputies reported the following violations:
- 10 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers
- 5 seat belt violations
- 1 no driver’s license
