Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported a Thibodaux man is facing charges after driving into an apartment complex while impaired. Corey Hood (33, W/M) of 309 Ledet Drive is charged with his first DWI offense and Reckless Driving with Accident stemming from the incident.

Shortly before 9:15 p.m. on Monday, July 14, deputies received a call that a vehicle had just struck a brick wall of an apartment building at City Place Townhomes in Lockport. A detective and a Lockport Police officer who were in the area were the first to arrive on scene and made contact with the driver, who was identified as Corey Hood. An ambulance was also dispatched to the scene due to Hood complaining of a possible head injury. Upon arrival, EMTs transported hood to Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital for treatment.

Deputies made contact with the residents of the apartment unit which had been struck. A woman and her teenage son were present at the time of the crash, but were not injured. The impact of the crash knocked a hole in the wall through to the inside of the apartment.

Upon being released from the hospital, Hood was transported to the Criminal Operations Center in Lockport for questioning. Deputies detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, and he was showing signs of impairment. During questioning, Hood admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages prior to driving. He submitted to a Standardized Field Sobriety Test on which he performed poorly. A breathalyzer test later showed Hood to have a blood alcohol content of 0.143g%. He was charged DWI (1st offense) as well as Reckless Operation with Accident.
