Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported six people were charged with DWIs over the weekend, including one man charged with his fourth offense and another whose blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit.
At around 2 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, patrol deputies traveling along U.S. Highway 90 noticed a vehicle traveling slowly in the left (passing) lane suddenly brake and change lanes without a signal. Deputies initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identifying him as Patrick Plaisance (44, W/M) of 133 Crest Road in Raceland. Deputies detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, and he displayed signs of possible intoxication. Deputies conducted a Standardized Field Sobriety Test on which Plaisance performed poorly. After Plaisance refused a breathalyzer test, deputies obtained a warrant for a blood test and transported him to a local hospital. He resisted violently, but deputies restrained him, and a blood sample was drawn with the results pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Plaisance was eventually transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where he was booked for DWI (4th offense), Resisting an Officer (Violently), driving under suspension, improper lane usage and failure to use a turn signal. He is being held in lieu of $51,500 bond as set by Judge F. Hugh Larose.
Then on Sunday, July 27, just before 8 p.m., deputies in the Raceland area noticed a company-owned pickup truck pull over to the side of the road and watched as the driver stumbled out of the truck, and the passenger took his place. The vehicle began driving away, but deputies initiated a traffic stop suspecting the passenger had been driving impaired prior to the switch. The stop was initiated near the intersection of LA Highway 182 and LA Highway 653. Deputies identified the two men as Michael Schmidt (35, W/M) of 300 Canal Lane in Houma and Troy Dupre (48, W/M) of 405 Weatherby Lane in Bayou Blue. Schmidt was driving at the time, but Dupre had been driving prior to them switching places. Both men admitted to driving but refused to submit to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. They agreed, however, to submit to breathalyzer tests, and Dupre was found to have a blood alcohol level of .260g%, while Schmidt’s blood alcohol level was found to be .186g%. Both men were charged with their first DWI offenses.
Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies charged three others with DWIs during this past weekend, from Friday, July 25 to Sunday, July 27:
- David Hartman (45, W/M) of 7115 6th Street, Lockport – 2nd offense
- John Marshall (27, W/M) of 117 East 138th Street, Galliano
- Chad Fox (43, W/M) of 500 Mobile Estates Drive, Gray
