Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a Lockport couple has been arrested on drug distribution charges as well as for the burglary of a Raceland restaurant. Jai Fonseca (W/M, D.O.B. 05/14/89) and Cassondra Rodrigue (W/F, D.O.B. 11/25/80), both of 1215 Ethel Street, also face additional drug charges stemming from an incident on Wednesday.
On the morning of Tuesday, January 14, detectives were called to the Dairy Kool restaurant, located at 3821 Highway 1 in Raceland, in reference to a burglary wherein a safe was stolen from the business. Through the course of the investigation, agents identified Fonseca and Rodrigue as suspects.
Through a separate investigation, agents with the Lafourche Parish Drug Task Force had obtained arrest warrants for Fonseca and Rodrigue for the Distribution of Marijuana. Then on Wednesday, March 12, while conducting surveillance in the Lockport area, agents observed Fonseca driving along Church Street and made contact with him. Fonseca voluntarily consented to a search of his vehicle wherein agents discovered a small amount of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Agents then proceeded to Fonseca’s residence and conducted a search as per the search warrant. Upon arrival, agents made contact with Rodrigue who was at the residence with her two young children. During the subsequent search, agents discovered several partially smoked suspected marijuana cigarettes and more drug paraphernalia. They also discovered a small amount of methamphetamine and another drug only attainable by prescription, both of which were determined to belong to Rodrigue.
Agents placed both Fonseca and Rodrigue under arrest and transported them to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where they were booked on the aforementioned warrants for drug distribution. They were additionally each charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Illegal Use of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in the Presence of Persons Under 17 Years of Age. Rodrigue was additionally charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of a Legend Drug.
Detectives later questioned both in reference to the restaurant burglary, and both were implicated in the crime. They were charged with one count each of Simple Burglary. Both are being held in lieu of $43,500 bond each as set by Judge John LeBlanc.
