Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported the arrest of a Raceland man after learning he stole pills from his mother while holding her against her will at knifepoint. David Matherne of 101 Blanchard Street was arrested on Friday following an investigation into the incident.
At around 4:00 A.M. on Friday, September 6, deputies responded to a report of an armed robbery at Matherne’s Blanchard Street residence. Upon arrival, deputies learned Matherne had been arguing with his mother prior to the incident, and eventually left the residence. Matherne’s mother went to sleep and later awoke to find Matherne sitting near her holding a large knife. Matherne allegedly threatened to kill his mother if she did not give him any pills that were present in the residence. Deputies learned the mother attempting to leave the residence, but Matherne would not allow her to leave. At one point, Matherne allegedly pushed his mother to the ground and later slapped her in the face. She eventually gave Matherne some pills and he fled the residence.
Deputies learned Matherne was possibly staying at a friend’s house on Pan Am Drive in Gheens, and traveled to the residence to attempt to locate him. Deputies found Matherne inside the residence and also discovered a pill bottle in plain view inside his vehicle. Three Xanax (alprazolam) pills were discovered inside the pill bottle.
Matherne was placed under arrest for Armed Robbery, False Imprisonment while Armed with a Dangerous Weapon, Simple Battery and Possession of Xanax. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he is currently being held in lieu of $32,000 bond as set by Judge Jerome J. Barbera III.
