Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Highway Safety Checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, January 8. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, expired inspection tags, expired/suspended driver's licenses, and other violations.
This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of Lafourche Parish safer for all motorists.
A total of 215 vehicles passed through the last Highway Safety Checkpoint which occurred on LA Highway 1 on Wednesday, January 1 in front of Central Lafourche High School in Mathews. During that checkpoint, deputies reported the following violations:
6 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers
3 seat belt violations
2 improper child restraints
4 window tint violations
