Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported a man from Gray was arrested twice in a six-day period for burglarizing one residence and entering another without permission. Walter Richard (W/M, D.O.B. 08/24/81) of 121 Lydia Street was arrested after admitting to his involvement in both crimes.

On December 28, detectives began investigating a burglary at a residence in the 500 block of Abby Road in Thibodaux wherein several pieces of jewelry were reported stolen. Through investigation, detectives learned Richard had sold pieces matching the identity of those stolen at a local pawn shop. Detectives brought Richard in for questioning, and he admitted to taking the jewelry. He was arrested for one count of Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling and was booked accordingly at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. He remains there in lieu of $35,000 bond as set by Judge John LeBlanc.

Richard had also been arrested on December 29, 2013, for Unauthorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwelling after a family in the 200 block of Lee Drive in Thibodaux discovered Richard inside their home upon returning to their residence. In that instance, Richard claimed he was attempting to make contact with the family and entered the rear door when he discovered it to be unlocked. In that instance, he was released from jail after posting a $1,000 bond. In both instances, Richard knew the victims personally.
