Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre is pleased to announce the completion of the first ever Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office Police Motor Training Certification Course. One LPSO deputy and two officers from the Houma Police Department participated in the training and earned their certifications.

Deputy Brad Hicks of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office and Houma Police Department Officers Kraig Morales and Andree’ Picou completed the two-week training on Friday, February 14. Picou is the first female motorcycle officer for Houma Police. A brief ceremony was held on Friday at the LPSO Criminal Operations Center in Lockport where they received their certification certificates along with the “Flying Wheel Pin” which Motor Officers wear on their uniforms. The training was conducted at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center.

The course was taught by LPSO Motorcycle Patrol Deputy Jeffrey Arceneaux who just achieved his instructor certification last month. In January, Arceneaux attended the three-week Northwestern Police Motor Instructor Course in Gulfport, Mississippi, featuring participants from Louisiana and Mississippi, as well as the Chicago Police Department.

“This is another exciting accomplishment for our agency,” said Sheriff Webre. “We are very proud of the accomplishments of our Motor Deputies and those who participated in our first Motor Training Course. In the spirit of our Training Academy and Corrections Training Academy, this is just one more way the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office is helping train law enforcement officers from our own parish as well as the entire region.”
