JOSHUA CANTRELLE: Shortly after noon on Thursday, January 30, deputies responded to a domestic dispute at 338 Robyn Street in Bayou Blue wherein Joshua Cantrelle (W/M, D.O.B. 12/21/80) had reportedly strangled his wife. Upon arrival to the residence, deputies immediately made contact with Cantrelle who appeared to be very agitated, and he refused to comply with the deputies’ commands. He resisted deputies as they attempted to detain him. Additional deputies arrived on scene to assist and were able to take Cantrelle into custody, but he attempted to kick one of the deputies during the process. Deputies made contact with the victim and observed her to have visible marks on her neck. Cantrelle was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. Upon arrival to the jail, Cantrelle continued to resist deputies’ commands with force, and at one point, a deputy removed his Taser from its holster in case he would need to utilize it on Cantrelle. He continued to struggle with deputies, and began trying to grab the Taser, partially removing the Taser’s cartridge in the process. Another deputy nearby utilized his Taser on Cantrelle, and he was subdued into compliance. After being cleared by jail medical staff, Cantrelle was booked on charges of Domestic Abuse Battery Involving Strangulation, two counts of Resisting an Officer with Force or Violence, and Disarming of a Peace Officer. He remains at the Detention Center in lieu of $60,000 bond as set by Judge Walter I Lanier III, and he is also being held for Louisiana Probation and Parole.
