Raceland Fugitive Arrested after Nearly Three Years on the Run - by Dty. Brennan Matherne, PIO

Raceland Fugitive Arrested after Nearly Three Years on the RunLafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of a fugitive who had been on the run for nearly three years. Andrew Washington (B/M, D.O.B. 02/25/86) of 2049 Highway 182 in Raceland surrendered himself to patrol deputies on Tuesday, June 12, 2012. Washington had been on the run since September 2009 when he failed to appear in court for sentencing on several drug charges. He also fled from narcotics agents during an attempted traffic stop in 2010.

Washington was due to appear in court in Lafourche Parish on September 14, 2009, to be sentenced on drug charges including Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Boldenone Undecylenate (Schedule III), and Possession of Stanozolol (Legend Drug). A bench warrant was issued for $150,000.00 after he failed to appear.

Eight months later, on Saturday, May 12, 2010, agents with the Lafourche Parish Drug Task Force were working with agents from the Terrebonne Parish Narcotics Task Force when a Terrebonne agent attempted to conduct a traffic stop along LA-182 in Raceland. The driver of the vehicle, later determined to be Washington, fled heading eastbound on LA-182 toward LA Highway 1 reaching speeds of near 100 miles per hour and forcing several cars off the highway to avoid a crash. Before reaching LA-1, Washington pulled the vehicle over in the 2000 block of LA-182 and fled on foot. Through investigation, agents were able to later identify the driver as Washington. The vehicle he had been driving was found to have been rented to another individual and had been due to be returned to the rental car company for several weeks. Following the investigation, additional warrants were issued for Washington’s arrest for Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, and two counts of Resisting an Officer.

Patrol deputies made contact with Washington on Tuesday, June 12, and he was arrested without incident. He was booked on all aforementioned active warrants. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux and is currently being held on $187,000.00 bond.
