Extra Security in Place at Lafourche School - Sgt. Lesley Hill Peters

Sheriff Craig Webre announced extra security is in place at South Lafourche High School following threatening statements made by a 15-year old junior at the school. A concerned citizen contacted the Sheriff’s Office around 8:30 PM Monday evening after several parents of students voiced their concerns over comments overheard by their children.

The student in question had detailed to them a plan to bring a gun on campus and cause a lockdown situation. The 15-year old did tell detectives that he made the statements, but he was only doing it to get attention and he had no plans on carrying out his threats. Detectives have taken the 15-year old into custody and he is currently being held at the Juvenile Justice Center on charges of terrorizing. The investigation is ongoing.

“This is the third incident involving one of our schools in the last two weeks,” said Sheriff Craig Webre. “It is also clear that our students know such threats will not be taken lightly and are aggressively doing the right thing in telling an adult. We appreciate the cooperation we’ve seen among students, parents and our School Resource Officers in investigating every incident or comment. Our SRO’s will not tolerate any comments that involve threats, violence or the potential use of any weapon against our children,” added Webre.
