LPSO Reserve
Events upcoming Calendar – this would be updated
by the Reserve Coordinator and show upcoming events
as far as 1 year ahead of time or more. It could
also be used to show Reserve Assignments such as
which Reserves were assigned to upcoming events.
Levels of
Reserves – The levels of the LPSO Reserves are
based on the amount of training and the specific job
function they wish to perform.
-
POST –
POST Reserves complete the POST Training
Academy. This is the same training completed by
full-time law enforcement officers. POST
Reserves can attend either a 14-week day Academy
or a 17-week night Academy. The Day Academy
meets Monday-Friday 8am – 5pm. The Night
Academy meets Monday – Friday 6pm – 10pm and
several Saturdays. POST Reserves primarily
assist with patrol or enforcement functions;
but, they may assist in any area of the LPSO
where there is a need.
-
INTERMEDIATE – The Intermediate Reserve
level is designed for those persons who want to
volunteer, but they do not have the time to
commit to a full POST Academy. Intermediate
Reserves have 2 years to complete a 144 hour
curriculum. Upon completing 72 hours of this
training, the Intermediate Reserve may begin
assisting with Patrols. Like a POST Reserve,
Intermediate Reserves primarily assist in Patrol
or enforcement functions; however, they may
assist in any area of the LPSO where there is a
need. Intermediate Reserves work under the
supervision of a POST Reserve when doing
enforcement functions.
-
AUXILIARY
– Auxiliary Reserves are volunteers who want to
assist the LPSO, but they do not want to patrol
or take enforcement actions. This level is
vital to supporting the enforcement function of
the LPSO. Some of the many areas within the
LPSO that are assisted by Auxiliary Volunteers
are:
-
Range
Safety Officers
-
Community
Civilian Patrols (VIPs)
-
Motor
Pool (mechanics)
-
Clerical
-
Police
Social Services
-
Instructors (Hunter’s Education, Academy
Classes, Technical Classes)
