Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Demarcus Sylvester (age 25) of Raceland on Wednesday, January 17. At around 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on St. Louis Street in Raceland. Deputies made contact with the driver and identified him as Demarcus Sylvester. Deputies immediately detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, and a handgun and several suspected marijuana cigarettes were observed inside the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, deputies discovered a black duffel bag containing several large bags of marijuana and other items. In all, deputies seized approximately 397 grams (14 ounces) of suspected marijuana and 3 marijuana cigarettes, as well as three grams of suspected crack cocaine, 8 hydrocodone pills, a bottle of codeine, and drug paraphernalia. Sylvester was arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. He was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Crack Cocaine, and Hydrocodone, as well as Possession of Codeine and Drug Paraphernalia, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, and illegal parking (R.S. 32:143). His bond is set at $47,850.
