Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced four individuals were arrested after deputies found suspected marijuana and three firearms during a traffic stop. The driver, Kendrick Mitchell, 24, of Thibodaux, faces multiple charges in the incident. Brennan Mitchell Sr., 35, of Labadieville and Brennan Mitchell Jr., 17, and Wilson Mitchell, 21, both of Thibodaux, also face charges.
At around 7:45 p.m. on July 6, 2018, deputies with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office “POP Squad” (Problem-Oriented Policing Squad) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Jackson Street and Canal Boulevard in Thibodaux. Deputies made contact with the driver and identified him as Kendrick Mitchell who had two active warrants and no driver’s license. He was immediately taken into custody. Deputies then identified the passengers as Brennan Mitchell Sr., Brennan Mitchell Jr., and Wilson Mitchell.
Deputies detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Narcotics agents then arrived on scene to assist with the investigation. Deputies located a large bag containing suspected marijuana in several small packages commonly associated with the individual sale of the drug. All vehicle occupants denied any knowledge of the suspected marijuana. Deputies also discovered a loaded handgun with an extended magazine under the driver’s seat, as well as a second handgun and an AR-15. The firearms were determined to have been in Kendrick Mitchell’s possession.
All four subjects were taken into custody and booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux.
Kendrick Mitchell was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, no driver’s license, and illegal tint. He was also booked on the two active warrants for Contempt of Court. His bond is set at $100,200. He is also ordered to pay $533.00 in fines and costs related to the contempt warrants.
Brennan Mitchell Sr., Brennan Mitchell Jr., and Wilson Mitchell were each charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana. The bonds on Brennan Mitchell Sr. and Wilson Mitchell are set at $25,000 each. The bond on Brennan Mitchell Jr. is set at $10,000.
