Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a 15-year-old male has been charged following an incident in Larose last week. The juvenile was found to have a loaded handgun and drugs in his possession during a traffic stop.
Just before 7 p.m. on January 17, 2019, narcotics agents conducted a traffic stop on a car with no license plate in the 13300 block of East Main Street in Larose. Agents made contact with the driver who had an expired temporary tag for the vehicle, and she claimed she was still waiting on the license plate from the dealer. Agents issued a warning to her for the violation.
During the stop, agents detected the odor of marijuana coming from the front seat passenger, a 15-year-old male from Galliano. As agents conducted a pat-down of the juvenile, he began to reach for his waistband. Agents stopped him, but he was able to turn away, and he began to flee on foot. As agents pursued, the juvenile again reached for his waistband. At that moment, an agent deployed a Taser, and the juvenile fell to the ground. As he did, a handgun dropped from his waistband. The juvenile continued to resist, but he was taken into custody.
Agents noticed the serial numbers on the handgun had been obliterated. It was found to be loaded with a round in the chamber. During a search, the juvenile was found to have approximately 8 grams of suspected marijuana in his possession and over $400 in cash. No other contraband was found inside the vehicle. The male teen was transported to the Lafourche Parish Juvenile Justice Facility in Thibodaux. He was charged with Resisting an Officer with Force or Violence, Illegal Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile, Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Mark, and Possession of Marijuana.
