Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced two men were arrested after being found with stolen property in Thibodaux. Charles Mouton, 53, of Houma and Mark Barrow, 54, of Thibodaux face several charges in the investigation.
On the morning of April 17, 2020, deputies responded to a burglary on Saint Mary Street in Thibodaux. A general contractor arrived at the site of a home under construction when he noticed a man exit the home and leave quickly in a white car. Nearly $1,000 in tools had been stolen. Based on a description of the vehicle, investigators developed Charles Mouton as a suspect. They made several attempts to contact him but were unable to do so at that time. The following morning, the contractor reported another burglary, but this time thousands of dollars of tools had been stolen. Based on evidence, Mouton was considered a suspect in the second burglary as well.
Shortly after 12 a.m. on Monday, April 20, deputies located the vehicle at the intersection of LA Highway 3185 and Talbot Avenue in Thibodaux and identified the driver as Mouton. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Mouton attempted to drive away. Deputies pursued, and Mouton raised what appeared to be a firearm and pointed it at the deputies. Moments later, Mouton stopped the car and ran from the scene. A passenger, later identified as Mark Barrow, also attempted to run from deputies. He was quickly apprehended by a K-9 unit. Deputies found several items in the car later determined to have been stolen. Further investigation revealed evidence that Mouton and Barrow had also been trespassing on a property near the intersection prior to the traffic stop where they had stolen a tiller.
Barrow was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in Thibodaux. He was charged with Criminal Trespassing, Theft, and Resisting an Officer. Bail is set at $12,500.
Later on Monday, detectives made contact with Mouton, and he was taken into custody. He was also booked into the Correctional Complex on charges including Aggravated Assault Upon a Peace Officer, two counts of Simple Burglary, Theft, and Criminal Trespassing. Bail is set at $153,500, and he’s also being held for Louisiana Probation and Parole due to a parole violation.
