UPDATE: Additional Charges for Inmates Involved in Recent Escape

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced additional charges for three inmates involved in a recent escape from the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex. Leroy Miles Jr., 23, was captured on Saturday following his escape. Investigators have also charged inmates Bricelon Martin, 26, and Jordan Beltz, 21, with assisting Miles in his escape.

On September 16, 2022, Investigators learned Miles had squeezed through a small drainage opening after kicking out a metal cover. Miles then scaled two perimeter fences of the facility to escape custody. Investigators tracked Miles’ location to a hotel in Houma.

On Saturday morning, September 17, LPSO deputies coordinated with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office and Houma Police Department. They located Miles in a hotel room, and he was taken into custody. Deputies located a rifle and marijuana inside his room, and they found he had disabled the hotel room smoke detector as well. He was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on new charges including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, and fire prevention interference (R.S. 14:206).

LPSO investigators have obtained a warrant for Miles for the charge of simple escape with an additional bail amount of $1 million. On Tuesday, Miles was transferred from Terrebonne Parish to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center where he is being held on charges of second degree murder and aggravated second degree battery. He also faces charges of attempted second degree murder in Terrebonne Parish, as well as aggravated flight from an officer and obstruction of Justice in Lafourche Parish.

Investigators have now booked Martin and Beltz with assisting escape. Martin was previously being held on charges of domestic abuse battery and felony theft, and his bail is now set at $35,000. Martin is also serving a 90-day sentence for another theft charge. Beltz was previously being held for possession of methamphetamine, and his bail is now set at $25,000

Sheriff Webre said investigators will examine this incident to help improve security at the Correctional Complex. “This escape exposed a design flaw in our facility which we have already taken steps to secure,” said Sheriff Webre. “I sincerely thank our local, state and federal law enforcement partners who assisted as our investigators tenaciously to locate and apprehend this individual.”

The investigation into Miles’ escape continues, and additional arrests are still possible as investigators are pursuing charges against individuals outside the Correctional Complex.

Man Found with Drugs and a Rifle after Causing a Disturbance in Galliano

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of a Galliano man found with drugs after causing a disturbance involving a firearm. Hobie Gisclair, 31 of Galliano was arrested on Wednesday.

On September 21, deputies responded to the area of East 103rd Street in Galliano in reference to a man yelling at people, carrying a rifle, and running around the area. When deputies arrived, they located Gisclair sitting on the front porch of his residence holding a rifle. Other deputies and officers from Port Fourchon Harbor Police and Golden Meadow Police arrived to assist. He began arguing with deputies as they attempted to get him to cooperate. After a short time, deputies were able to safely take Gisclair into custody. Deputies found him in possession of suspected methamphetamine and heroin, as well as drug paraphernalia. Deputies determined that while he was carrying the gun and yelling at people, he never pointed the weapon at anyone.

Gisclair was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in Thibodaux. He was charged with possession of heroin, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, as well as illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance and disturbing the peace. Bail is set at $121,100.

Due to its proximity to the incident, South Lafourche High School was placed on lockdown for a short time that morning.

Larose Man Arrested for Having Sex with Underage Relative

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of a Larose man who had sexual contact with a close juvenile family member. Christian Carskadon faces charges of aggravated crime against nature and felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

Through investigation, juvenile detectives learned Carksadon allegedly had sexual contact with a close relative who was also under the age of 18. On September 20, 2022, detectives met with him for questioning.

Following the interview, Carskadon was arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in Thibodaux. He was charged with aggravated crime against nature and felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Bail is set at $50,000.

Due to the nature of the allegations, no further information will be released on this arrest.

Rape Aggression Defense Course to be Held in Raceland in October

Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) course on October 18-20, 2022, at the LPSO Shooting Range classroom located at 3451 Highway 182 in Raceland.

This self-defense course designed for women will take place over the course of three days. The class will begin at 6 p.m. and end around 9:30 p.m. each day. Participants must attend all three days. Course instruction will be provided by certified R.A.D. instructors from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The cost of the course is $10 to cover the cost of course materials and is non-refundable. Class size is limited, and advance registration is required. You can register and pay for the course online at www.LPSO.net/classes. The deadline to register for the class is October 14, 2022, at 11 a.m.

LPSO Searching for Inmate Who Escaped from Correctional Complex

Sheriff Craig Webre announced deputies are currently searching for an inmate who escaped from the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex. On Friday, September 16, 2022, correctional officers discovered Leroy Miles Jr., 23, had escaped from the facility. The circumstances of his escape are currently under investigation.

Miles is described as 5’11″ black male weighing 155 pounds. He is of medium build with black hair and brown eyes. His last known address was on Nicole Street in Bayou Blue. Anyone who sees Miles or has any knowledge of his whereabouts should call 911 or contact Crime Stoppers Bayou Region at 1-800-743-7433. A preliminary investigation suggests Miles squeezed through a drainage opening (approximately 10 inches by 14 inches) after removing the metal cover. Investigators have determined that Miles was assisted by one or more inmates as well as a person or persons outside the facility.

Miles was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex on September 4, 2022, after being arrested by the Lockport Police Department for aggravated flight from an officer and obstruction of justice. He was also being held on charges of second degree murder and aggravated second degree battery for Lafayette Parish and attempted second degree murder in Terrebonne Parish.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office is working with multiple law enforcement agencies to follow up on leads that are expected to result in his apprehension.

Detectives Investigating Burglary Aboard a Crew Barge

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced detectives are asking for the public’s help in solving a burglary on a crew barge in Larose.

On Monday, deputies were called to a reported burglary aboard a crew barge docked in the 1800 block of LA Highway 24 in Larose. Several items of value were stolen including televisions, tools, copper and an industrial battery. Investigators determined the crime occurred sometime between Friday evening, September 9, 2022, and the following morning.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre is asking for the public’s help in locating 17-year-old Blayze Pitre of West 153rd Street in Galliano. He was last seen on Friday, September 9, 2022, when he left for school, but he never reported for school. He reportedly left home with a school bag full of clothing.

Blayze Pitre is described as 5’5” tall, weighing approximately 140 pounds with brown hair. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, but he could likely be wearing different clothing. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office at (985) 532-2808, or simply dial 911.

Seat Belt Checkpoint Slated for September 8, 2022

Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will conduct a seat belt checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daytime hours of September 8, 2022. During this checkpoint, deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt use and safety seat violations, as well as for proper inspection tags and other potential violations. Checkpoints are designed to help raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.

UPDATE: Victim Identified in Raceland Shooting Death

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the victim who passed away in an overnight shooting incident has been identified as Dwaynette Folse, 27, of Raceland. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is still ongoing.

Just before 9 p.m. on September 7, 2022, deputies responded to a call of numerous gunshots in the 600 block of St. Louis Street in Raceland. Through investigation, detectives learned Folse had been sitting in a truck parked on the street. Multiple rounds were fired at the victim resulting in his death.

As the investigation continues, detectives are asking for the public’s help in this case. The investigation into this shooting incident is continuing.
